What is Serotonin Deficiency?

When the body's Serotonin levels are lower than normal, certain psychological disorders and impaired bodily functions may occur. This is known as Serotonin deficiency. This condition not only occurs due to low Serotonin levels but also due to:

Insufficient Serotonin receptors or receptors that aren't working well.

Serotonin not being properly circulated or when its broken down too soon.

 Inhibition of the Serotonin formation process

Causes of Serotonin Deficiency.

You would be surprised that Serotonin deficiency is caused by a variety of life stressors which we encounter in our day to day lives. These include:

Prolonged periods of stress.

Impaired absorption and breakdown of food due to genetic factors, digestive issues, and faulty metabolism can inhibit the body's ability to build up Serotonin.

A poor diet that is deficient in proteins, vitamins, and minerals.

Intake of toxic substances in the body such as pesticides, heavy metals, and drug abuse.

Certain drugs and substances have been found to cause Serotonin deficiency, these include nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, and antidepressants.

Hormonal imbalances.

Lack of enough sunlight exposure has been found to lead to Serotonin deficiency.
