How To Perform A Sissy Squat?

  • To perform a bodyweight sissy squat stand with your feet shoulder width apart.
  • Initiate the movement with your knees going forward, towards the floor, as you start bending.
  • You should lift on your toes.
  • Your upper body should start rolling backward, to compensate the knees going forward and down
  • Go as far as you comfortably can, then straighten back up to the starting position.

Because this exercise is challenging and requires good balance, you should consider performing it while holding something (like a chair or a power rack) with one hand.

Also, if you are advanced, you can hold a plate across your chest with your other hand. Some even use a barbell, like in a front squat, but we think that's overkill. Be warned, this exercise is super hardcore, and most lifters will only need a few reps to make those quads burn.
