The female reproductive system is a complex system that needs to be adequately understood, as it can have various symptoms that can signal you of its reproductive health or condition.

The vagina, which is the entryway to the female reproductive system, has a naturally acidic environment. The body will produce the acidic pH to ensure that the entryway to the female reproductive system is protected against the entry of infection and other harmful pathogens.

Vaginal discharge is normal. In fact, it is the body’s natural way of cleansing the female reproductive system entryway from bacteria and other harmful microbes.

What is Causing Your Clear Watery Discharge?

Watery vaginal discharges are considered normal. Moreover, a woman’s menstrual cycle will cause changes in your vaginal discharges.
The four main reasons for your clear watery vaginal discharge are the following:

• Watery Discharge Can Indicate Ovulation

When a woman ovulates, there is an excellent chance for her to get pregnant. During this phase of a woman’s menstrual cycle, the vagina will produce a clear watery vaginal discharge.

The cervical mucus will exhibit a stretchy and watery environment that will allow the sperm to swim through the cervix while still being protected.

During this phase, the estrogen levels in the body will be enhanced which will lead to the production of odorless, clear watery vaginal discharge.

The discharges will appear over a period of days and will be followed by a period of dryness, and then A woman’s regular menstruation period.

• Clear Watery Discharge during Pregnancy

A clear watery discharge may also be a sign of pregnancy. Some women will experience and notice this watery discharge before even taking a pregnancy test to confirm the pregnancy.

The change in vaginal discharge occurs because of the significant hormonal changes that happen during pregnancy. As the body prepares itself for the pregnancy, several hormonal changes occur. In fact, this phase of a woman’s life is often described as a phase when hormones will be all over the place.

After fertilization, the estrogen levels in the body will become elevated almost immediately. This rise in hormone level will thicken the cervical mucus and cause the formation of the mucus plug on the cervix. This plug protects the uterus from bacterial entry and protects the fetus inside the womb until it is ready to be delivered during labor.

There is also a chance that you will notice a watery but blood-streaked discharge during pregnancy. This type of discharge is often associated with implantation bleeding. Some women will have watery discharge with streaks of blood while others will notice vaginal spotting.

Vaginal discharges will be experienced throughout the pregnancy and are considered normal. However, if you notice changes in color and that it is streaked with blood, you should seek immediate medical consult right away.

• Watery Discharge after Sex

If you just had sexual intercourse and you notice clear watery vaginal discharges, this discharge is associated with sexual arousal. This discharge is not produced by the vagina, but by the two glands just above the vaginal canal.

This type of discharge is produced by the body to lubricate the vagina and make penile penetration easier and more comfortable. Even after sexual intercourse, there is a chance that the discharges will continue to flow. This happens because the glands have not stopped producing the watery lubricant and is considered normal. Eventually, the discharge will end.

• Watery Discharge during Menstrual Period
